According to Jean-Christophe Mau, \u201c90% of the potential of each vintage comes from the vines\u201d, so it is of the utmost importance for him to be present at each and every stage in\u00a0the making of his wines.<\/p>\n<p>The work on the vines is enhanced each year by new know-how contributed by each of the members of the team, in particular Bruno Patrouilleau \u2013 Vineyard Manager and Cellar Master \u2013 with his twenty years of experience, who assists JC Mau in his uncompromising quest to shape ambitious wines.<\/p>\n<p>Ch\u00e2teau Brown has been actively engaged since <strong>2012<\/strong> in a sustainable agriculture process, gradually introducing an <strong>Environmental Management System<\/strong> into its daily work.<\/p>\n<p>As another logical step, Ch\u00e2teau Brown then committed to the process of gaining <strong>HEV certification<\/strong>, which it was granted in January 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Ch\u00e2teau Brown is aiming to go even further towards creating and developing a <strong>real natural ecosystem and fighting against monoculture<\/strong>, so has continued to set up various campaigns promoting the <strong>estate\u2019s biodiversity<\/strong>: in the vines with cover crops and reduced use of plant protection products, or alongsides the vines with the installation of beehives, flower farm or bat and tit boxes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chateau-brown.com\/en\/our-commitments\/\">Discover our commitments here<\/a><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3717\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"cent wp-image-3717\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chateau-brown.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/vendanges-a-brown-382x187.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"301\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chateau-brown.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/vendanges-a-brown-382x187.jpg 382w, https:\/\/www.chateau-brown.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/vendanges-a-brown-1024x502.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.chateau-brown.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/vendanges-a-brown-768x377.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.chateau-brown.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/vendanges-a-brown-1536x753.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.chateau-brown.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/01\/vendanges-a-brown.jpg 1682w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><p>Harvests at BROWN<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The BROWN vineyard is constantly evolving: each plot is examined \u00a0with care (and drained if it&rsquo;s necessary) before being replanted.<\/p>\n<p>This focus on excellence also applies to all the work on the vines, which is adapted with care to each vintage.<\/p>\n<p>Ploughing is carried out in a resoned manner in order to preserve the soil organic matter. They replace the use of weed-killer, they enhance aeration of the soils and encourage deep vine root development, thus avoiding water stress in very hot years.<\/p>\n<p>Yields are controlled and limited to <strong>39 hectolitres<\/strong> per hectare for reds and <strong>35 for whites<\/strong> (average since 2005). These yields and the good health of the vines are the result of work carried out throughout the vegetation cycle of the vine, again adapted to the conditions of the vintage: pruning, bud removal, leaf stripping and green harvesting.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>grapes are harvested by hand<\/strong>, of course, <strong>using small trays, sometimes in several successive operations<\/strong> as the grapes reach perfect ripeness.
