Second wines of Château Brown – English
Second wines

As usual on all the great Bordeaux estates, Château Brown produces second wines – both red and white. They are to be found with two Pessac-Léognan labels: La Pommeraie de Brown and Le Colombier de Brown.

The second wine is the reflection of the BROWN terroir and enjoys the same lavish care as the Grand Vin (manual harvesting, ageing in French oak barrels…) but the plots of vines are selected to make fruitier and lighter wines.

La Pommeraie and Le Colombier, are easy-drinking wine made to be enjoyed younger. Fruitier and lighter than Chateau Brown, but just as elegant and well structured, they can be enjoyed right away.

As of 2018, Château Brown’s second wines boast a new packaging.

Le Colombier de Brown

“Le Colombier de Brown” refers to a beautiful stone dovecote set in the grounds facing the house – a sign of wealth back in feudal times.

Le Colombier de Brown is a different expression of the “Brown”  terroir.

Le Colombier de Brown red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and a majority of Merlot. It offers a lot of delicacy and roundness.

Made only in particularly generous vintages, the second white wine is made with a majority of Semillon, along with some Sauvignon Blanc. Le Colombier de Brown White boasts the same smooth mouthfeel as the Grand Vin, thanks to the Semillon, and a delicately woody hint, in a slightly more nervy style.

La Pommeraie de Brown

By the end of the 90’s, Château Brown had been renowned for the quality of its apples for several decades, hence the name of its little brother, « La Pommeraie de Brown ».  Its hectare of apple trees was uprooted in 1998 by Bernard Barthe (owner from 1994 to 2004), and has now given way to impeccable Cabernet Sauvignon vines on deep gravel soils.
